UNIT 3: SPAIN TODAY

UNIT SUMMARY

Students will learn about the political organisation of Spain. They will review important dates in recent Spanish history from 1936 onwards.

They will then look at the Constitution and the system of constitutional monarchy in more detail.

They will compare another constitutional monarchy, the UK, with the Republic of France and its semi-presidential system. Students will learn about some of the rights and responsibilities set out in the Constitution of 1978.

In particular, they will focus on the right to vote and how elections are organised in Spain. They will look at the three powers as defined by the Constitution and learn about the organisation of each with particular focus on Congress, the Senate, the ministries and the Supreme and Constitutional courts.

They will investigate one of these institutions and present their findings as an infographic.
