Students will learn about the EU as a political
construct. They will learn all 28 member states and
be able to identify them on a map. They will learn
about the EU’s formation and history and look at its
newest member state: Croatia. They will also learn
about the principles that guided its formation.
Students will study the EU’s political and economic
objectives, its symbols and institutions. They will
study the role and functions of these institutions
and their location in Europe in some detail. They will
explore the euro in-depth and how it gets adopted as
a country’s currency. Finally students will learn more
about the single market and how it works. They will
also learn which countries are not in the euro and
consider the impact of the euro on member states.
Students will do a project investigating currency
exchange rates against the euro for those countries
that do not use it.
